Kitchen Cleaning Tips

Cleaning your kitchen doesn’t have to be a daunting task – as long as you get to grips with the basics, cleaning it will be a breeze. We’ve compiled our best kitchen cleaning tips (Status for Whatsapp)to help make it that bit easier!

Microwave: To soften splatters inside the microwave, fill up a cup with water and microwave it on high heat for one minute (make sure your cup is microwave-friendly, too). The steam will loosen any foods that are stuck to the microwave walls, making it easy to wipe down.

Spills: Make it a habit of wiping up any spills immediately when they’re much easier to clean. Once the spill dries and hardens, it makes it much more difficult to remove. Spills from foods high in sugars such as milk and tomato-based foods may discolor the surface, so wipe these spills immediately with a wet cloth.

Burner Rings: Allow burner rings and drip pans to soak in a sink of hot, soapy water. This will loosen the dirt and make it easier to clean.

Gas Burner: Clear the ports of a gas burner with a fine wire or straight pin. Don’t use a toothpick as it can break off and block the port.

Ceramic Tops: Allow ceramic tops to cool before cleaning. Never use a wet cloth on a hot surface. Don’t set dirty pots and pans on the surface as they can mark it permanently.

Finger Prints: To remove these from stainless steel appliances, add a small amount of baby oil to a clean, soft cloth and wipe the surface down in the direction of the grain.

Oven Cleaners: Never use an oven cleaner in a self-cleaning oven, as the product will clog the pores in the coating and may damage the surface.

Oven Racks: Spray oven racks in a plastic garbage bag for easier cleaning.

Metal Scourers: Never use metal scouring pads, steel wool, abrasives and powdered cleaning products on kitchen surfaces such as stainless steel, ceramic, porcelain enamel, marble, limestone, etc. as these products will scratch and permanently damage the surface.

Marble or Limestone: Do not use vinegar, lemon juice or other cleaners containing acids on these types of surfaces.

Chrome Surfaces: Chrome surfaces can be polished to an eye catching shine with a dry micro fibre cloth.

Dish Cloths: Dish cloths and sponges can be incubators for germs. Wash dish cloths regularly, and microwave damp sponges in the microwave on high for a few minutes to kill bacteria.

Manuals: Check the owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommendations and directions for cleaning all kitchen appliances.
