Deep Clean Your Way To A Happy Home With These 5 Tips!

Winter is here and you are spending more time indoors. This makes it a perfect time to give your space a deep clean. A deep clean contributes to not only your home feeling fresher and but you being overall healthier.

Winter living means the closing of windows and doors for months on end. Combine this with the germs being brought home from the outside world and you have the ultimate petri dish of cold and flu virus growth.

Let’s get cleaning…

1 – REPLACE YOUR FURNACE FILTER

deep cleanIt is a good idea to make a habit of changing out your furnace filter at the start of winter before turning it back on in early fall. Changing out your filter will have your furnace running more efficiently and in turn save you some money. Who doesn’t want to save on bills?

Go a step further with your furnace deep clean and vacuum up the dust bunnies that have taken up residence around the furnace as well. This will help to eliminate even more of the build up of dust floating through your vents into your home. This means less dusting. I mean seriously, who would say no to that?

2 – Clean The RefrigeRATOR COILS
Are the dust bunnies living under your fridge paying you rent?  If not, they are costing you money so it is time to give them the boot. This particular deep clean can add a few dollars to your pocket every month because your fridge will not have to work so hard to run cold.

Start by unplugging your refrigerator, disconnecting any water lines and pulling it out from the wall.

Depending on the make of your fridge, the coils may be found underneath or running up the backside. Using a soft vacuum brush, gently remove all the dust and debris built up on the coils and underneath on the pump. Stubborn dust can be removed with a soft, fine paint brush.

Make sure that your water lines or plug cords are not kinked when you push it back in against the wall.

3 – DE-GREASE THE OVEN

If you are like most people you avoid cleaning the inside of your oven like the plague. Today’s helpful tip however should have you facing it bravely from here on out.

Depending on how bad your oven is, you may need to put in a little elbow grease to get it spotlessly clean. However, keeping this up on a regular basis and not just once a year it will have the job get easier each time.

4 – CLEAN THE WINDOWS

Ever wonder why your home feels so dismal in the winter?
Dingy windows block the limited winter daylight, creating adeep clean
gloomy feel inside your home.

You can easily fix this issue with a bucket of warm water and vinegar. Make sure to wash the inside and outside of your glass in order to really let the light in.

This is also the perfect time to give your curtains and blinds some tender loving care. No sense in having sparkling clean windows obstructed by dusty, allergen filled coverings. Ensure that you look into the care required for each type of window covering so as not to ruin them with your cleaning process.

Are you like most people and despise cleaning your blindS?

5 – EMPTY OUT YOUR DRYER VENTS

Did you know that leaving lint to build up in your dryer vents can be a fire hazard? This means more than just cleaning out the little catchment tray you see inside the front of your dryer. Although the pull out should be cleaned every time you run a load through it.

deep cleanEvery winter however you should take it a step further and deep clean the dryer venting tube at the back. Start by pulling your dryer out from the wall. Remove the tube from the backside and vacuum inside where it attaches to the dryer itself as well as up into the wall.

If you need it and are able, feel free to use a dryer snake and feed it up into the tube for a deeper clean. This will have your dryer running more efficiently and safer while it does.

Winter is here to stay for a while so settling into a cleaner, fresher, tidier space will have you feeling less trapped and hopefully less sick.
